Help the map

If you have ever looked at an uncolored stretch of map and thought “someone should go find out,” you are in the right place. There are two genuinely helpful ways to pitch in: map coverage from the road, or operate an MQTT watcher that independently reports what it heard.

Become a mapper

Use the iPhone or Android app after you have joined a mapping region. Follow the Set up the app and First mapping trip guides, use safe low-rate tests, and help fill in places that have little verified evidence.

The useful stuff is distinct, well-spaced measurements—not thousands of duplicates from the same spot. Small, steady contributions add up faster than people think.

Operate a feeder

A FreqMapper feeder is a mesh-connected node that listens to Meshtastic traffic and securely shares packet receipts with the Freq51 map/statistics service. It can help with local map activity, active-node statistics, coverage planning, and troubleshooting.

It does not replace RF coverage, extend radio range, or bridge internet traffic back onto the mesh.

Typical feeder hardware can be a Wi-Fi-connected ESP32, a Linux system with a LoRa HAT or USB radio, or a RAK device with Ethernet. Reliable uptime and an existing local mesh connection matter more than a particular hardware brand. A modest feeder that stays online is genuinely useful.

Feeder enrollment

Feeder setup is coordinated privately so broker access and local operational details are not copied into public pages. Contact the Freq51 community team in Discord to start an enrollment conversation.

To be used for verified regional coverage, a feeder must be approved for that region and produce actual read-only MQTT receipts. A claimed node ID or a public Position Packet is not enough.
