FreqMapper Terms of Service
Last updated: October 2, 2026
These Terms apply to the FreqMapper Android and iPhone apps, website, public coverage map, Help center, accounts, regional tools, and related services. By using FreqMapper, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
These Terms use FreqMapper to refer to the app, website, public map, and related services operated by the FreqMapper project and its maintainers. If a different legal operator name is published later, these Terms will be updated; until then, FreqMapper identifies the service provider under these Terms.
What FreqMapper is
FreqMapper is a community mapping service for recording and displaying Meshtastic radio coverage. It combines user-started mobile trips with evidence from approved Watchers and regional sources. Coverage, signal, hop, route, Watcher, and status information can be delayed, incomplete, incorrect, or outdated.
FreqMapper is not an emergency, safety-of-life, navigation, dispatch, guaranteed-communications, or regulatory-compliance service. Never rely on the map to decide whether emergency communication will work.
Who may use it
You must be at least 16 years old and legally able to agree to these Terms where you live to use FreqMapper. The service is not directed to children under 16, and people under 16 must not create or link an account or use its mapping and radio features.
If local law requires a higher minimum age or permission from a parent, guardian, employer, landowner, radio-license holder, or network operator, you must meet that requirement before using the related feature. Regional administrators and people submitting precise location or public content must be able to understand the consequences of those actions.
Safe and lawful use
You are responsible for using your phone, vehicle, radio, frequencies, channels, power settings, and network access lawfully and safely. In particular:
- Set up the phone and radio before driving. A driver must not interact with the app or radio in a way that distracts them or violates traffic law.
- Do not trespass or enter unsafe, closed, or restricted areas to collect data.
- Use only radios, channels, credentials, brokers, and Watchers you are authorized to use.
- Follow applicable amateur-radio, unlicensed-radio, privacy, surveillance, export, and communications laws and the rules of the networks you join.
- Do not transmit confidential, personal, unlawful, or harmful content over a channel that is not appropriate for it.
- Stop using a feature if the app, radio, vehicle, location, weather, or local conditions make it unsafe.
FreqMapper does not grant a radio license, spectrum right, land-access right, or permission to use somebody else's network or equipment.
Accounts and access
The mobile app can be used without a website account. Optional accounts use a verified identity from Google, Apple, Discord, or GitHub. You are responsible for your provider account, devices, active sessions, and any action taken through them. Keep access codes and private links confidential, and report suspected unauthorized access promptly.
Do not impersonate another person, create misleading identities, or use an email address, radio, node identity, regional role, or organization name you do not control or have permission to use.
Regional administrator, moderator, Watcher, and partner access is limited to the role granted. It does not create employment, agency, ownership, or authority to speak for FreqMapper outside that role.
Regional responsibilities
People managing a region or Region Group must:
- publish accurate, lawful, and non-misleading names, descriptions, boundaries, links, and community information;
- obtain permission before connecting a Watcher, broker, source, logo, or third-party service;
- protect invite codes, channel settings, credentials, and private member data;
- grant roles only to people who need them and remove access that is no longer appropriate;
- review questionable evidence and public information fairly; and
- ask a FreqMapper administrator or moderator for changes outside the regional controls available to them.
Regional teams are responsible for their own communities, equipment, and third-party services. FreqMapper may correct or remove regional information that is unsafe, unlawful, misleading, insecure, abandoned, or harmful to the service.
Acceptable use
Do not use FreqMapper to:
- submit fabricated locations, packets, receipts, identities, statistics, or other false evidence;
- interfere with a radio network, the service, another user's equipment, or normal mapping activity;
- probe, bypass, or defeat access controls, rate limits, security checks, enrollment rules, privacy controls, or evidence requirements;
- upload malware, exploit code, illegal content, harassment, threats, or material that violates another person's rights;
- collect, publish, re-identify, or misuse private mapper, account, route, Watcher, or regional information;
- scrape or automate the service in a way that causes unreasonable load or ignores published API rules; or
- sell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute non-public service access or credentials without written permission.
Good-faith security reports, accessibility tools, normal search indexing, and approved API use are not prohibited when they follow the published process and applicable law.
Your content and mapping contributions
You keep ownership of content you own. You must have the rights and permissions needed for anything you submit, including names, text, links, images, files, regional information, radio metadata, and feedback.
You grant FreqMapper a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, process, adapt, aggregate, display, distribute, and create service outputs from submitted material as reasonably needed to operate, secure, improve, explain, and provide FreqMapper. This license lasts while the material is part of the service. It ends for deleted personal content except for:
- public feedback or content already copied by others outside FreqMapper;
- records that must be kept for security or legal reasons; and
- de-identified coverage facts retained under the Privacy Policy so one person's deletion does not erase the shared community map.
The license does not allow FreqMapper to sell your personal information or use private content for unrelated advertising. The Privacy Policy explains the difference between private trip data, public map outputs, support records, and retained anonymous coverage.
Suggestions and feature ideas may be used without payment or an obligation to implement them. Do not submit an idea if you do not have the right to share it.
FreqMapper software and materials
The service, branding, original interface, and FreqMapper-created documentation are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Open-source components, map data, imagery, radio firmware, and third-party materials remain under their own licenses and attribution requirements.
These Terms give you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the service for its intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership of the service, private source code, credentials, branding, or third-party material.
Public maps, APIs, and third-party services
Public coverage and statistics are informational estimates, not a promise that a radio path, location, device, Watcher, or network will work now or in the future. Do not remove attribution, misrepresent the source, or present FreqMapper results as certified testing.
Third-party sign-in, maps, app stores, GitHub, radios, brokers, and community services have their own terms and policies. FreqMapper is not responsible for a third party's independent service, content, outage, policy, or action. Links do not imply endorsement.
Partner APIs require a separate approved key and may have additional written conditions, limits, attribution, and revocation rules. Public pages do not grant access to private APIs or data.
Changes, availability, and beta features
FreqMapper may add, change, pause, limit, or remove features, regions, evidence, accounts, integrations, or beta access. Updates can be required for security, compatibility, evidence quality, store rules, or service operation. The service may be unavailable because of maintenance, internet or radio conditions, provider failures, security events, or circumstances outside FreqMapper's control.
Reasonable efforts will be made to preserve legitimate contributions and give notice of material changes, but uninterrupted operation, permanent storage, and backward compatibility are not guaranteed. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
Enforcement, suspension, and termination
FreqMapper may restrict, suspend, or end access; revoke a role, key, enrollment, or Watcher; quarantine evidence; or remove content when reasonably necessary to protect users, comply with law, investigate abuse, maintain reliable mapping, or enforce these Terms. Serious security threats, fraud, dangerous conduct, or repeated violations can lead to immediate action.
When practical, FreqMapper may explain the reason and allow correction or review. That is not promised when notice would create a security, privacy, legal, or safety risk.
You may stop using FreqMapper at any time. The Privacy Policy explains account and installation deletion and what anonymous community coverage remains. Sections that must logically continue—such as ownership, retained licenses, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms—survive termination where law allows.
Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FreqMapper is provided as is and as available. FreqMapper and its contributors do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, accurate, complete, fit for a particular purpose, or compatible with every phone, radio, firmware, network, region, or provider.
You assume the risks of driving, field work, radio operation, equipment setup, data loss, network use, and decisions made from community mapping information. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FreqMapper, its maintainers, contributors, and authorized community administrators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; lost data, use, opportunity, reputation, or profits; radio or network failure; property damage; or personal injury arising from unsafe or unauthorized use.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that applicable law does not allow to be limited, including liability that cannot be waived for fraud, willful misconduct, or certain personal injuries.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any permitted legal proceeding must be brought in the state courts located in Salt Lake County, Utah, or the United States District Court for the District of Utah. Mandatory local consumer protections and rights remain in force regardless of this section.
Changes to these Terms
The Last updated date shows when the Terms changed. Material changes will be announced through the Help center, app, or service before they take effect when reasonably possible. Continued use after the effective date means acceptance where permitted by law. If you do not accept a material change, stop using the service and use the available deletion tools.
